ARE YOU A TOTAL SLOB? Learn Your Organizing Style Series Space #5

Can you just not be bothered with straightening up? If so, you’re a Total Slob.

Total Slobs differ from Pack Rats in the sense that they don’t intend to hoard and save. Rather, they just accumulate things as they go along. With their ineffective or total lack of systems, they have great trouble cleaning up and finding things in their surroundings.

Want to be sure? Take this Quiz:

As you answer Never (N), Occasionally (O) or Frequently (F), rate yourself according to the following scale.

Never 0 points        Occasionally 1 point        Frequently 2 points__N__O_  F

1-      Do you lose things?

2-      Do other people complain about your sloppiness?

3-      Do you identify with Oscar from The Odd Couple who stuffs his brown tie into his brown shoe just to keep track of it?

4-      Does it bother you when you’re asked to pick up after yourself?

5-      Do you agree that “A neat desk is the sign of a sick mind”?

6-      Does it seem like too much effort to put things back after you use them?

7-      Do you avoid cleaning?

8-      Do you have trouble understanding why other people are bothered by a mess?

9-      Do look at a room and not see the clutter?

10-   Do you feel as though you have more important and creative things to do with your life than keeping things organized?

                          TOTALS

0-6 points           You’re not really a Total Slob.

7-13 points         You have strong Total Slob tendencies.

14-20 points       You’re a full-fledged Total Slob.

WHY AND WHEN YOU’RE A TOTAL SLOB:

1-      You have insufficient knowledge/skill.

2-      You lack perception.

3-      You’re depressed.

4-      You’re a nonconformist.

5-      You’re rebelling against something.

Total Slobs, who are sometimes Pack Rats too, are the opposite of Right Anglers. They have a high tolerance for mess and not much experience in straightening it out. But even Total Slobs can become organized using the right guidelines!

Now I have offered you a basic outline of this organizing style but if it resonates with you and you want to learn strategies and ways to make this organizing tendency to work for you can find it all in the book:

HOW TO BE ORGANIZED IN SPITE OF YOURSELF

We all fit into at least one (if not more) categories, and I would love to hear your thoughts as you read through the series.
